I thought I would share with you some pictures of the photoshoot and of the exhibition while it's still fresh in my mind.
What I've been up to since the course..
It's been a couple of months now since I finished the course and I have been pretty busy, I must have been up and down the country 10 times and I feel like I have only just started to settle down again. Well almost! I had a couple of weeks helping out at the York theatre royal with their costumes for the community play 'Everything is possible-The York suffragettes' and I then had 2 weeks work experience at the National theatre in London based in the costume making workroom. When I started at the national they were between shows but I got to make and adjust some costumes for the hire shop. It was great to get back into making again and it really helped build my confidence being as I had never been in a real workroom environment before. I was even given my own desk!
Here's some pictures of what I was working on..
This is a skirt made for a rococo dress, underneath are panniers to hold the shape. The hem was levelled by adjusting the fabric at the waist and pleated at the waist to fit.
This was a bodice made for a previous Peter Pan production that needed to be adjusted for the hire shop. I made the bodice shorter and added piping at the top and bottom. Boning was added to the seams and the back seam was unpicked and hook and bars hand sewn on. I do like a bit of hand sewing!
After the national theatre I returned to York to do a shift of dressing for the suffragette show, experience that could come in handy later if I decide to do more of it in the future!
While I was in York I also spent a day at a school helping the students to make carnival costumes, my first payed day of costuming work, yay :) Since then I have found some work in Brighton making costumes which I hope lasts a few weeks, I can't wait to start!
